The Buellton City Council (Buellton, Calif.) has approved development plans for Meritage Senior Living, reports the Lompoc Record.
The facility would have 247 units across four care levels in agrarian-style architecture on a narrow 18-acre site. The land is owned by Norman Williams of Buellton Oaks LP and other partners.
After eight years, approval of the plans for the $58 million proposed senior living project was granted in a 4-1 vote last week. The vote against the Meritage development expressed concern about the location of the senior living project since the proposed site is zoned for general commercial.
Meritage will offer skilled nursing, memory care, assisted living, and independent living units.
A conditional use permit is being sought for a 24-room skilled nursing facility, a 40-unit memory building, 91 assisted living units, 92 independent living units, 242 parking spaces, 4.5 acres of landscaping and concrete walking paths. Also included are a dining hall, commercial kitchen, pool and health center, social programming, health education, cultural programs and concierge service. A Santa Ynez Valley Transit bus stop for Dial-A-Ride service and bike racks are planned.
A three-story, assisted-living building is proposed at the center of site with one- and two-story buildings at the north and south ends. Only 12.6 acres of the property are to be developed for the project.
The construction of the memory care, assisted living units, and service buildings will be phased.
The project is designed by Cuhaci & Peterson Architects.
