Agrace (Madison, Wis.), a nonprofit provider of hospice, palliative, and dementia care, expects to break ground this spring on the Ellen & Peter Johnson Dementia Village on its Madison campus, according to a news release.

The $40 million project is inspired by the Netherlands’ Hogeweyk Dementia Village and marks the first Hogeweyk-inspired dementia care community of its kind in the U.S., according to the provider.

The project features a small household model with a strong emphasis on physical activity, social connection, and time outdoors. Each household will house eight residents with private bedrooms, a kitchen, and living room. The project will also include workforce housing in the form of private studios to attract caregiving professionals.
