The Lumiere of Chesterfield, Chesterfield, Missouri
The Lumiere of Chesterfield senior living community opened in June 2024 in St. Louis’ Chesterfield, Mo., suburb.
The 193,000-square-foot community houses 150 residential units, including 96 independent living units, 37 assisted living units, and 17 memory care units, filling a gap in the area for full-continuum senior care.
Delivering a farmhouse architecture at The Lumiere of Chesterfield
The senior living community combines farmhouse architecture with modern amenities such as outdoor gathering and recreational spaces, a fitness room and a dog park, as well as a movie theatre, wine room, art studio, and salon and spa.
The entrance features a circular driveway and front plaza adorned with ornamental plants and a kinetic art sculpture by a local artist, creating a hospitable and aesthetically pleasing first impression.
Additionally, the front of the senior community features a prominent porte-cochere, characterized by its sturdy masonry construction, which includes elegantly crafted stone piers that provide both structural support and aesthetic appeal, complemented by a welcoming front porch that invites residents and guests alike.
The masonry base extends around the building, grounding it firmly to the site. The fluctuating mansard and gabled rooflines artfully accentuate different functions of the building, such as balcony projections and dormers.
Outdoor amenities for seniors
Thoughtfully designed outdoor amenities include pedestrian walking paths that open to assorted gardens and plazas designed to offer diverse recreational experiences.
For example, the independent living plaza features options such as bocce ball, putting greens, and raised planters for gardening.
Exterior and interior design focuses on light, connects to nature
The building’s exterior materials such as natural stone, durable brick with a rich, warm hue, and fiber-cement siding are chosen to convey a sense of permanence and harmony with the surrounding environment. The design ensures the structure seamlessly fits into the site’s topography while differentiating the various residential structures.
Inside, The Lumiere of Chesterfield offers a variety of communal areas promoting both social and private interactions. Every room is designed to maintain a visual connection to nature, enhancing biophilic benefits with intentional large windows and greenery, earthy colors, and natural wood and stone elements.
The building layout, based on a loosely east-west orientation, allows various common rooms such as the dining room, grand foyer, and bistro to have views that enable residents to tell the time of day, aiding their circadian rhythms.
The interior design is clean, contemporary, and luxurious, providing a spacious and comfortable living environment with a variety of common spaces, including dining rooms, a grand foyer, piano lounge, bistro, library, sports terrace, movie and art room, exercise studio, and game room.
