Benchmark At Alexandria In Virginia
Benchmark at Alexandria occupies a prime spot amid 100,000 square feet of retail and restaurants in the West Alex mixed-use development in Alexandria, Va.
Unlike most Benchmark communities that are often located in suburban areas, Benchmark at Alexandria is a 10-story high rise in an urban setting.
Opened in February, the building exterior offers a blend of warmth and modernity, including an aluminum storefront and a brick-and-metal-panel façade punctuated with large windows that provide expansive city views and bring in significant natural light.
Collaboration with the city’s zoning department was key to maintaining compliance with bulk-plane limitations and ensuring architectural harmony with the overall West Alex Development.
Part of the Benchmark Senior Living (North Waltham, Mass.) portfolio, the community consists of 115 residential units (89 assisted living and 26 memory care). Residential spaces feature oversized windows and a circadian lighting system on memory care floors.
Amenity spaces at Benchmark At Alexandria
A luxury rooftop penthouse with views of the Washington Monument offers outdoor cooking and entertainment, as well as exercise opportunities. Additional community amenities include a restaurant, wine tasting room, arts and crafts room, and multiple social areas.
Benchmark’s partnership with Babylon Micro-Farms (Richmond, Va.) enables the community to grow fresh produce in the dining room, using semiautomated farming systems that engage residents and promote sustainability.
The building also features a grocery store and various retail establishments, and residents enjoy direct access to public transportation and dedicated bicycle pathways.
The project has received a 2024 Energy Star Certificate and is on track to achieve WELL and LEED Gold certifications for its sustainable and energy-efficient design.
