Meramec Bluffs Senior Living Community, part of Lutheran Senior Services (Brentwood, Mo.), opened the Towne Plaza at the Bluffs memory care neighborhood on its campus in Ballwin, Mo., according to a news release.
The 29-unit memory care neighborhood is inspired by The Netherlands’ De Hogeweyk, a senior living community for people with dementia.
The new memory care neighborhood’s immersive, sensory experience design includes brightly colored doors to help residents navigate the community, soothing sounds, and destination spaces to keep residents active, such as a floral shop with hands-on activities, general store, art studio, pet shop, and dining rooms that look like small-town cafés.
Additionally, the community uses technologies to encourage collaboration and interaction, including Tovertafel, a game for cognitive and physical stimulation, and Gateway to the World, which immerses residents in faraway scenes across the globe through virtual reality games.
