Developed by Capitol Seniors Housing (Washington, D.C.) and operated by Atria Senior Living (Louisville, Ky.), Atria New City is a three-story, 70,000-square-foot, 80-unit assisted living and memory care community located on five acres in New City, N.Y.
The community was designed to differentiate from a nearby traditional, well-established assisted living community. To achieve clear distinction, Atria New City was designed as a modern, non-traditional senior living community with a contemporary architectural design. Another goal of the project was to repurpose and refurbish materials from an old horse farm and barn where the building now stands.
The assisted living and memory care community boasts a unique architectural design by architecture and interiors firm Meyer Senior Living Studio (Meyer; Ardmore, Pa.), featuring sharp lines and a flat roof with natural elements of wood and stone. The approach creates a warm and inviting ambiance on the exterior. Inspired by the Hudson River Valley, the community’s interior features fresh tones of blue, green, and orange accents with purposeful pops of pattern woven throughout the spaces curated with resident focus in mind.
The site was previously home to a horse farm and stable. Special considerations were taken to repurpose and refurbish materials from the old horse farm and barn where once located on the site. Stable doors from the barn were used as doors leading into the library. Hanging pendant lights were reclaimed and refinished as part of the bistro, and wood was reclaimed from the barn itself to be used as mantels for fireplaces and as decorative beams on ceilings
The 80-unit community includes public and private dining, a bistro with outdoor seating, a club room with fireplace seating, a sports lounge with an outdoor balcony overlooking the community entrance and the New City valley, a library with a children’s nook play area, a wellness center offering health check-ups and monitoring, and a multipurpose room for games and activities, a beauty salon, and theater.
