Founded in 1852, Belmont House, a nonprofit senior living community in downtown Toronto, provides residents with long-term care, retirement living, and assisted living. The community is expanding its urban campus through an 11-story addition expected to open in fall 2028.

Designed by Montgomery Sisam Architects (Toronto), the project adds 168 long-term care beds and 32 assisted living units. The L-shaped wing is positioned between the community’s existing buildings to create a new, secure courtyard. A warm, textured materials palette, including red terracotta cladding, reinforces a cohesive campus identity.

Planning urban high-rise additions for senior living communities

The project joins the existing buildings with the new addition through a shared lobby and reception, which features a lounge and tuck shop, café, boardroom, and community auditorium.

Floors 2 to 9 house resident home areas, each with 21 private bedrooms arranged around shared living, dining, and activity spaces. Privately funded assisted living and memory care units make up the top two floors.
