The Tides at Bay Village of Sarasota, Florida: 2023 EFA Design Showcase Honorable Mention
The Tides at Bay Village of Sarasota in Sarasota, Fla., brings memory care services to the existing campus with the addition of two 14-resident households as well as amenity spaces ranging from a salon to general store to outdoor garden.
Neighborhood diversity in spaces, activities
Beyond providing residents with diversity in spaces and activities, the $5.3 million project, completed in June 2022, integrates tunable circadian lighting throughout and private resident bathrooms with toilets visible from the bed and amber lighting to reduce nighttime falls.
Meanwhile, life skills stations are located throughout the neighborhoods to provide opportunities for activities such as a desk for office work and dresser and mirror for styling.
The 13,574-square-foot addition, submitted to the Design Showcase by SFCS Inc., was praised by jurors for its contextual design, with interiors that feel fully Floridian thanks to a light and airy aesthetic accented by a palette of light blue and green colors and materials including shiplap-style walls.
Additionally, the memory garden features three distinct areas: a lanai with views to birdfeeders and a butterfly garden, a shaded lounge area with pilings and beach grass, and a third space with a water wall and raised sensory sand bed to remind residents of the beach.
