Having served the Durham, N.C., community for more than 60 years, Croasdaile Village tackled a necessary repositioning initiative to revitalize 160,000 square feet of its senior living campus and expand the community’s assisted living and memory support areas.
The goal for the design of memory support was to maintain residents’ dignity amid the decline of cognitive function and skills while providing a safe and nurturing environment. The wing includes a reminiscence room with life stations, interactive art, a jukebox for music therapy, and rummage bins with sensory engaging accessories.
To effectively improve the assisted living portion of Croasdaile’s healthcare offerings, a new two-story assisted living building was constructed immediately adjacent the existing assisted living space. Using a household model design and specifying larger apartment units, the community was able to provide a more effective continuum of care for residents of all care levels. This design included an enclosed courtyard tailored for both existing and new assisted living residents, which long-term provided easier access to dining/living and activity areas, and in the interim allowed residents to seamlessly move into their new and improved accommodations.
The project was phased over six years and included the construction of four new two-story villa/hybrid independent living homes with six apartments per building, a new wellness center, a new physical and occupational therapy center, renovated aquatic center and several new dining venues.
