Nonprofit management company Waverly Senior Services (Gladwyne, Pa.) is under contract to purchase a 43-acre site from The Haverford School in Bryn Mawr, Pa., according to Montco.today.
Plans call for the site to be developed as a satellite campus for Waverly Heights, a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in Gladwyne. The project comprises 224 units in 15 apartment-style buildings and eight duplex homes. Additional plans include a welcome house, amenity center, and 521 parking spaces.
Located about 3 miles from the main Waverly Heights campus, the site was formerly home to the Glencoe Estate, built in 1907, and later served as an orphanage and school. The Haverford School, an all-boys preparatory day school in Haverford, Pa., purchased the property in 2022 for a planned expansion that was not carried out.
The site currently houses classrooms, a gym, cafeteria, offices, apartments, and six cottages previously used as dormitories. Waverly Senior Services plans to retain only the main building as a leasing office, while the rest of the project will be new construction.
