Parkview at Terwilliger Plaza opened this month, adding 127 independent living apartments to the nonprofit continuing care retirement community (CCRC) Terwilliger Plaza in Portland, Oregon.

The 11-story, 370,000-square-foot Parkview tower connects by sky bridge to three other senior living buildings in Terwilliger Plaza. The addition brings the CCRC’s total number of residences to 550 units.

The project was designed by LRS Architects (Portland, Ore.) and is certified as a Passive House for its energy efficiency. The building features solar window shades, energy-efficient appliances, and photovoltaic roof panels.

It’s projected to achieve a 42 percent reduction in energy consumption compared to average senior living buildings of comparable size, according to a news release.

The interior design took inspiration from the Pacific Northwest region with motifs featuring mountains and roses. Biophilic strategies include the use of natural materials, textures, and colors.

All the residential units have large balconies and ample natural light.
