The Variel Of Woodland Hills
Operator Momentum Senior Living (Sant Clemente, Calif.) and developer Harbert South Bay (Dallas) identified a need for luxury senior living in the Greater Los Angeles area, so they partnered to create The Variel Of Woodland Hills, in the vibrant location of Warner Center, a neighborhood in Woodland Hills, Calif.
Opened in June 2022, the 336-apartment community includes 215 independent living residences, 94 assisted living residences, and 27 memory care residences.
VTBS Architects (Santa Monica, Calif.) and interior design firm Rodrigo Vargas Design (Los Angeles) designed the 413,000-square-foot community to resemble the experience of a luxury boutique hotel or resort. Upon arriving at The Variel, the porte-cochère leads into a grand two-story lobby. The presence of generous light is the first thing that strikes visitors, highlighted by a grand illuminated overhead by a chandelier.
The first floor provides access to the residential apartments and lounge spaces upstairs and past the reception desk, amenity spaces, as well as a bar, restaurant, and communal spaces for conversation and events.
Interior design highlights
The project team chose a color palette for the senior living community that reflects the sunny landscape of Southern California. Hues of blue, green, and yellow inspired by nature complement cool, relaxing neutrals. Art is used throughout the community, as well.
Each residential floor has gathering spaces designed with both comfort and flexibility. A selection of lounges are cozy and private, perfect for a card game, book club, or intimate group gathering. Larger spaces are designed for group gatherings, such as birthday parties, TV event nights, or cocktail parties.
Amenities at The Variel include a bistro café, juice bar, golf simulator, private screening room, indoor pool and spa, wellness gym, yoga studio, theater, art studio, conservatory, and dog wash.
Outside, residents can access an outdoor garden, rooftop lounges, and courtyards with barbeque grills, firepits, and a variety of seating areas.
