Looking to expand into the Kansas market, owner Dover Companies (Clayton, Mo.) found an underserved, aging population in Topeka, Kan.

Scheduled for completion in early 2023, Cedarhurst of Topeka will feature a modern farmhouse design, including a neutral color scheme, natural wood accents such as flat stock beams, and masonry that’s reminiscent of Kansas limestone.

The 75,368-square-foot community’s residential-scale will further help it fit into the existing scenery and neighborhood where the building is being developed.

Cedarhurst of Topeka will comprise 82 assisted living and memory care units. A central stone fireplace and hearth in the lobby will create a warm gathering place for residents as well as serve as the main hub of the building. It will bring all the community spaces together in a town square design concept, with the bistro, salon, gym, dining room, and reception accessed through this central area.

On the exterior, an expansive front porch will provide a welcoming entry. Gabled accent elements, reminiscent of a more traditional house form, are accentuated against a modern, crisp white façade.

Centralized courtyards surrounded by units on all four sides will provide exterior access and views to common spaces and residential areas.

Design features, such as vaulted ceiling, and amenities will be prominent in both the memory care and assisted living neighborhoods, providing a cohesive aesthetic throughout the building.
