Rose Villa

Rose Villa is a continuing care retirement community in Portland, Ore., situated on a 22-acre garden campus designed with a small-town feel. That campus has been significantly redeveloped over recent years, with Phase 3 now delivering 35 independent living (IL) units in Schroeder Lofts and 36 skilled nursing units in Madrona Grove.

The 136,000-square-foot in-progress project is scheduled for completion in August and was submitted to the Design Showcase by Scott Edwards Architecture (Portland, Ore.).

Sustainable initiatives

Jurors especially appreciated sustainability initiatives ranging from low-flow plumbing fixtures and LED lighting to efforts that maximize natural daylight and reduce heat gain. The project also boasts a system that will recycle greywater in the IL building for use in toilets as well as for campus landscaping.

Additionally, the project focuses on enhancing resident quality of life through a variety of solutions, including tying into existing campus walkways and landscaping that features a variety of textures and bloom periods as well as native plantings that support backyard bird habitats.

A childcare center will anchor the ground floor of Schroeder Lofts, too, integrating children and families into the community’s everyday life.
