To meet a growing demand for more spacious, customizable homes for seniors who wish to live an independent lifestyle, Riverwood Retirement Management Inc. is completing a significant expansion of John Knox Village of Central Florida in Orange City, Fla.
The community is adding 40 duplex villas in the northeast corner of the campus on 17.5 acres of tree-lined property contiguous to the senior living community. Occupancy is currently higher than it has ever been in the past, and the villas are the most popular option. The $12 million project will welcome the first resident in the fall of 2016. Residents will move in as the villas are completed, and the construction will be done in stages so new residents will not be affected by completion of the remaining villas.
The design of the “Holly” villas was inspired by feedback and suggestions from resident focus groups. The villas will have 12-foot coffered and tray ceilings throughout. They will also include crown molding, French doors, a Roman shower, an open floor plan, and custom options such as a wet bar and various paint colors and window treatments. Future residents can also select wallpaper, flooring, and countertops.
Two-bedroom, two-bath 1,900-square-foot villas or two-bedroom, two-bath 1,700-square-foot villas are available. A larger footprint and private garages will help seniors feel comfortable as they transition from their homes to the village.
Riverwood has managed John Knox Village for more than 22 years. John Knox Village is acting as the contractor for the project.
