Waltonwood Lead Mine, Raleigh, North Carolina
Waltonwood Lead Mine‘s assisted living and memory care community in Raleigh, N.C., offers housing for 100 individuals, including 30 units dedicated to memory care. The urban senior living community is located on a 5-acre site near shopping, dining, and medical services.
Opened in December 2025, the 4-story building steps across three distinct grade elevations, resulting in three separate ground-floor elevations designed to follow the natural topography. Floor plans range from studios to two-bedroom, 2.5-bath apartments.
Owner Singh Development (Cary, N.C.) worked with design firm Cline (Raleigh, N.C.), which served as architect and interior designer on the project, to deliver a community that prioritizes residents’ physical health, emotional well-being, and connection to nature.
Access to the outdoors for assisted living and memory care residents
The site plan encourages daily movement with accessible walking paths that loop through landscaped gardens and raised plant beds for hands-on gardening opportunities.
Inside, windows at the ends of hallways throughout the building draw daylight into the interior, supporting residents’ circadian rhythms and aiding orientation. Dedicated fitness rooms host group exercise classes focused on mobility, balance, and strength. Additionally, on-site salons reinforce personal care routines and a sense of normalcy.
In the assisted living neighborhood, a landscaped courtyard serves as a social and wellness hub with comfortable seating, an outdoor kitchen, and grill station. Residential units are oriented toward a wooded area at the rear of the property to provide calming views.
Memory care residents have access to a secure rooftop terrace with both open-air and covered seating, enabling year-round use. A garden activity station also promotes safe, structured engagement with nature.
Dining options for assisted living and memory care residents
Using a hospitality-inspired approach, the assisted living dining room features a palette of warm wood tones and layered lighting that mirrors an upscale restaurant. A separate café with indoor and outdoor seating provides a more casual gathering place for residents, families, and visitors.
In the memory care neighborhood, the dining room features an open serving kitchen, allowing residents to experience the sights and aromas of food preparation, which helps stimulate appetite, memory, and routine.
