In developing the interior design concept for The Langford at College Station retirement community in College Station, Texas, Spellman Brady & Company (St. Louis) built upon the aesthetics and history of College Station—the home of Texas A&M University—and the flavor of the Texas countryside and ranches. The Langford, which opened April 2019, is a tribute to Ernest Langford, known as the “Father of College Station,” who served as the city’s mayor for 23 years and as the head of A&M’s architecture department.

The 215,000-square-foot community’s light-filled spaces feature a combination of a rustic flare and an elegant, timeless appeal for the variety of residents that live in the 72 independent living units, 24 assisted living units, and 18 memory support units.

Artwork was used to help tell the story of the project’s historic relationship of Texas A&M and the Ernest Langford legacy. For example, seven wall-mounted plaques tell the Langford story while bursts of A&M’s school colors provide an element of school spirit. Photographs of local scenery by David Langford, Ernest’s grandson, as well as custom glass creations are showcased throughout the property.
