The Oaks at Woodland, an affordable senior living community, has opened on the grounds of Woodland Christian Church in Lexington, Ky., according to the Lexington Herald Leader.
The project is part of a broader restoration of the historic sanctuary, originally built in 1924 and previously in disrepair. Tax credits for affordable housing helped finance the $13 million project.
The new senior living community includes the adaptive reuse of former classroom space at the rear of the church, which has been converted into eight residential units, as well as a newly constructed adjacent building with 30 units.
