Sentara Life Care, the senior services division of Sentara Healthcare, is launching a facility replacement project on its 11-acre campus in Chesapeake, Va. The long-term plan calls for replacement of the skilled nursing facility and the assisted living village on-site.
Rooms in the new skilled nursing center will offer more square footage and greater privacy for residents, plus shared baths with showers. The new building will include a dedicated rehabilitation wing with a gymnasium, a memory unit for residents with dementia, and a large new kitchen. The new nursing center building will also be more than a third larger than the current one.
The project requires relocation for more than 60 residents in the current assisted living village, which will be demolished and replaced by the new nursing center. Assisted living residents and families are being supplied with up-to-date information on other Sentara and non-Sentara facilities in the region, with a target of 90-days in which to relocate.
The draft site plan also includes the potential for a PACE facility. PACE is the federally-supported Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly which provides day services and comprehensive healthcare to those who qualify for a nursing home but choose to live in the community.
Capital funding for the nursing center phase, approved by the Sentara Healthcare board of directors, is $16.9 million.
