In recognition of the leadership of Dr. Robert Nathan Mayer, a leader in the elder care reform movement and the founding president of The Hulda B. & Maurice L. Rothschild Foundation who died last year, the foundation has formed The Mayer-Rothschild Foundation. Margaret Calkins, The Elliot Professor in Health Care Design at Kent State University, has been named executive director.
The organization will continue to use its social venture philanthropy model and collaborate with a range of stakeholders, including policymakers, consumers, researchers, educators, providers, designers, and regulatory bodies, to promote person-centered care and improving the quality of lives of elders.
Calkins brings more than 25 years of experience as a researcher, consultant, and educator to the foundation. A pioneer in the field of environments for elders and people living with dementia, she worked closely with Mayer for more than a decade.
“We will continue to follow Rob’s inspiring approach and work to build networks of communities and organizations to collaborate in both creating incentives and identifying pragmatic solutions to the challenging issues that face our elders today, so that the elders of tomorrow will be able to live deep and meaningful lives” Calkins says.
