Plantation Estates, owned by ACTS Retirement-Life Communities, is breaking ground this week on the first phase of expansion at the continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in Matthews, N.C.

The estimated $95 million project will add 20 one-story villas and 126 newly designed independent living apartment residences to the campus. The approximate 1,400-1,600 square-foot apartments and 1,800-2,100 square-foot villas each have two bedrooms with a den and two bathrooms, and are available in a choice of styles and floor plans.

The project will also include the addition of a two-story clubhouse with a fitness and aquatic center, multiple dining venues, and a large auditorium for multi-function use.

The second phase of the campus expansion will bring a new WillowBrooke Court skilled care center to campus, while the existing skilled nursing center is renovated into additional assisted living residences.
