Heddington Oaks, a senior care community in Peoria, Ill., was recently recognized with a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

The 154,000-square-foot skilled care building achieved the certification based on several green design and construction features including the use of fire-proofed steel, brick and fiberboard siding on steel studs, asphalt shingles and single-ply roofing, and variable air volume with energy recovery.

The design firm of Larson & Darby Group collaborated with the county of Peoria, Ill., and an integrated project delivery team.
