Gulf Coast Village, a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in Cape Coral, Fla., has started construction of Palmview, a 130,980-square-foot assisted living and memory care support residence to house 34 new assisted living and 24 memory support residences.

The project is financed through a $79 million bond and is the first of a three-phase redevelopment project at the CCRC, which also includes the addition of 20 nursing suites and the conversion of existing semi-private nursing suites to private suites with shared baths.

Design inspiration comes from the natural elements of the Florida coastline and features botanical fabrics in a warm and inviting color palette, white-painted millwork, rich wood tones, and a blown glass art installation. Six distinctive dining venues are also offered, as well as a general store and coffee bars. Outside, large porches and lanais offer casual settings for residents and their families, while expansive courtyards provide safe spaces to explore.

The community is expected to open in March 2017. AG Architecture (Wauwatosa, Wis.) is the architectural firm and LECESSE Construction Services (West Henrietta, N.Y.) is the contractor.
