Flower Hospital (Dothan, Ala.) has been working for the past two years to design and make changes to the emergency department (ED) for the safety and comfort of older adults.
According to the article in the Dothan Eagle, changes such as thicker mattresses, reclining chairs, hallways with handrails, softer lighting, soothing room colors, blanket warmers, and nonreflective flooring have been implemented to decrease anxiety and improve quality.
The hospital also offers specialized classes or events as well as fitness programs designed for older adults. The ED medical staff are specifically trained in caring for seniors.
