Ames Family Hospice House Earns LEED Gold

<p><a href="http://www.hospicewr.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hospice of the Western Reserve</a>’s (Cleveland) new 40,000-square foot patient care center, <a href="http://www.hospicewr.org/programs-services/levels-of-care/care-settings/ames-family-hospice" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ames Family Hospice House</a>, has been awarded LEED  Gold certification by the <a href="http://www.usgbc.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">U.S. Green Building Council</a> (USGBC).</p>

Hospice of the Western Reserve’s (Cleveland) new 40,000-square foot patient care center, Ames Family Hospice House, has been awarded LEED  Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

Opened in July 2012, the facility achieved Gold certification for energy use, lighting, water, and material use as well as incorporating a variety of other sustainable strategies. The project team includes Hospice Design Resource, PLLC (Hilton Head, S.C.), Vocon Partners (Cleveland) as architect of record, and Donley’s Construction (Cleveland) as the general contractor. 

Among the green design and construction features at Ames Family Hospice House are:

  • Only wood certified as sourced from responsible providers was used
  • Low-VOC paint, carpet and furnishings
  • Water-efficient fixtures reduce projected water use by 28 percent
  • Interior courtyards and walls of windows bring in ample natural light
  • Motion and photosensitive light fixtures respond only when needed
  • High-efficiency climate control systems are zoned for the occupants’ comfort
  • 75 percent of construction debris was diverted by repurposing or recycling
