Opened in February 2022, Parker at Somerset in Somerset, N.J., is a standalone short-term and long-term care center.
Its latest project is a three-story, 75,000-square-foot expansion to a 40-year-old skilled nursing facility. The addition provides the space needed to readdress the traditional, hospital configuration and create a modern post-acute rehabilitation center.
It also allowed owner Parker Health Group Inc. (Piscataway, N.J.) to feature its “small home” model of skilled nursing.
Parker worked with Spiezle Architectural Group (Hamilton Square, N.J.) and MDP | Merlino Design Partnership (Gulph Mills, Pa.).
The team focused on integrating safety and technology throughout. Examples include touchless access points, bipolar ionization, and hospital-grade negative air pressure systems.
Additionally, the design delivers comfortable living spaces and warm social settings.
The project includes an adult day center and childcare center to support an intergenerational atmosphere. Additional highlights include a light-filled two-story atrium and ground -floor café as well as a spacious therapy suite on the second level.
It houses 64 private guest suites (including several bariatric suites) that are organized into intimate resident neighborhoods with inviting gathering areas.
The architecture and interior design celebrate Parker’s new brand standards. From a sleek, textural façade to art installations and pops of color, every detail was designed to meet the spiritual, physical, social, and psychological needs of residents.
The team is continuing its efforts to revitalize and modernize this campus. Plans include a renovation of the original 50,000-square-foot building acquired in 2016 with a focus on skilled nursing.
