Inspired by the region and local culture, architects, developers, and landscapers are developing a new senior living community, Sonata West Orange, in Winter Garden, Fla., that’s scheduled to open in summer 2017.
Sonata Senior Living (Orlando, Fla.) is collaborating with Three: living architecture (Dallas) to design the community with recreational spaces that appeal to local seniors and a setting that provides connectivity between indoor and outdoor spaces.
The 139,000-square-foot community will feature 78 independent living (IL) and 35 assisted living (AL) units. The project is being built adjacent to sister community Sonata Serenades, which specializes in memory care, and is estimated to cost $30 million.
The exterior design is modeled after Floridian cottages with verandas and porches. Two 8,000-square-foot courtyards will be the focal points of the IL and AL residences.
Recognizing today’s senior population is more active, Sonata West Orange will support residents’ varying interests with multiple, flexible recreational areas. For example, the art room in both IL and AL communities will transition into a garden solarium.
The community will also offer a number of amenities, including lounge areas, a bar and bistro, full-service salon, business center, library, movie theater and auditorium, and billiards room.
A two-acre wetlands on site will serve as a natural backdrop to the community and house a senior-friendly, quarter-mile walking path with shaded resting areas, outdoor fitness equipment, a dog park, picnic pavilion, and bocce ball court. The area will provide a natural buffer between the senior living community and the adjacent residential neighborhood and church and will be a place for local families and residents to explore the pond and enjoy the ever-changing landscape and fauna.
