Clark-Lindsey Village is a life plan community providing a full continuum of living, wellness, and care options in Urbana, Ill. It’s surrounded on three sides by the groves and prairie of Meadowbrook Park and located beside the flagship campus of the University of Illinois.

The community is undergoing a multiyear repositioning that focuses on wellness, including enhancements of programs and buildings throughout the continuum of services. Clark-Lindsey has partnered with Perkins Eastman on the project.

In collaboration with Clark-Lindsey’s leadership team, Perkins Eastman embarked on a visioning retreat followed by a series of workshops to generate scenarios and a subsequent master plan, a plan to allow each area of Clark-Lindsey’s operations—whether it be housing for the independent older adult or memory care—to focus on enhancing resident well-being, regardless of where the resident resides on the campus.

The repositioning began with the addition of four villa buildings, comprising 16 units altogether, designed and constructed to fully complement its Meadowbrook Park neighbors and to enhance connections to nature and the outdoors.

The next phase of repositioning includes the addition of two new homes for memory care—the first Green House homes in Champaign County. The homes are designed to accommodate two key demographics. One will provide care in a skilled nursing environment and the other in assisted living.

Green House homes are distinguished by presenting a personalized care model within a real home environment, with all the amenities one would expect, including a large kitchen, communal dining, and open floor plan. The new Clark-Lindsey homes will each include 12 private bedrooms and a small staff of caregivers.

At the same time, the campus is constructing a new wellness and aquatic center, including the addition of a rehabilitation and therapy suite, a group exercise and warm water therapy pool, and a wellness and fitness suite with a welcoming lobby. Its position at the front door of the campus is a testament to the community’s commitment to wellness, while its proximity to an existing health center reflects the organization’s commitment to rehabilitating and transitioning patients back to home.

One of the key goals of the wellness and aquatic center is to create opportunities for the broader community to participate in the fitness and social programs held at Clark-Lindsey, further expanding the continuum of services to older adults who don’t live there.

The project is expected to be completed in late fall 2016.
