Sailboat Bend Apartments is nearing the end of the renovation of its seven-story, 105-unit building in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Efficiency units, one- and two-bedroom units, and a community room are being modernized and refurbished to meet Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards and ADA requirements and a community garden is also included.
The first floor of the building has been converted into a plaza featuring a gathering space with ample seating and benches. The project design is being led by Glavovic Studio. The 20" modular vertical storefront grid and curtain wall systems within the existing concrete modular building units will be maintained on the north and south façade as well as a pattern on the ground plane and floor plan within the common areas of the project. The interiors are currently undergoing a substantial renovation involving gutting units. Landscaping as well as two major park areas nearby and a promenade in the new plaza, provide green space.
The project team includes Housing Authority of the City of Fort Lauderdale (HACFL;owner); Atlantic Pacific Communities/Sailboat Bend Apartments Inc. (developer); Architectural Alliance (landscape architect); Bryntesen Structural Engineer Inc. (structural); HSQ Group Inc. (civil); TLC Engineering for Architecture (MEP); and Moss Miller joint venture (general contractor).
