The City Planning Commission of Manhattan, Kan., has approved plans for Sunflower Flats, a new affordable senior living community in Manhattan, according to The Mercury.
The project is a partnership between the Manhattan Housing Authority and Housing MHK, a Manhattan-based nonprofit, low-income housing provider. It replaces Garden Grove, a senior living community destroyed in a 2018 flood.
The new community will house 62 energy-efficient residential units with a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans.
The project also includes a solar energy installation to reduce operating costs.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2026 and be completed by late 2027.
