Now And Later

We’re somehow living in the present and the future at once.

EFA Expo & Conference is finally here again, after a too-long hiatus. Planning has required navigating an obstacle course of shifting protocols and planning challenges, plus a whole lot of hard work and creative thinking. Hopefully, you’ll be with us in Chattanooga to see how it all comes together in person. We’re pretty excited about the session lineup, the keynote speakers, and the exhibitor offerings—and you can learn more about these in the pages of this issue.

If you’re still on the fence about traveling to an in-person event right now, might I humbly suggest a road trip? That’s my strategy: The drive from my home in Cincinnati to Chattanooga should clock in at around six hours, along scenic, summer-lush roadways. It will allow me to avoid connecting flights through crowded airports, I can come and go when I’m ready, and no one will glare at me when I sing at the top of my lungs. Maybe truckers.

But a road trip might not be an option for you, either, and we get it. All along we’ve planned for a slightly smaller crowd this year due to continued travel restrictions and budget considerations. So, if you just can’t make it, there’s good news: The next EFA Expo & Conference will be here before we know it.

The 2021 show planning has been stretched out over 28 long months, but as is the way in the “time is relative” pandemic era, now our team has seven months before hosting EFA Expo 2022. Bring it on! We’re actually well on our way already, with the educational session proposals pouring in and being prepped for our conference jury to review. The floor plan for the expo hall is laid out, and exhibitors will be able to choose their spots very soon. And we’re digging into our research on local venues and potential senior living tours around our 2022 host city: Milwaukee!

If you’ve never been to this charming Midwest city, you’re in for a treat. So put it on your calendar now to join us April 3-5, 2022, at the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee. If I don’t see you in Chattanooga, I’ll hope to see you there—and if I’m really lucky, we can raise a toast to the future of senior living at both.
