Heartis Buckhead, Atlanta
High-rise living is at the heart of the 18-story Heartis Buckhead in Atlanta, a $90 million independent living, assisted living, and memory care community completed in March 2022.
Urban senior living
Located on a busy corner in the city’s Buckhead neighborhood, the design amps up the urban lifestyle with street-level amenity spaces and lots of pedestrian connections to encourage resident engagement with the surrounding community.
The exterior uses contrasting colors, LED lighting, and a vertical name banner to establish a recognizable brand and architectural character to the building.
Inside the 432,000-square-foot Heartis Buckhead, submitted to the Design Showcase by Lantz Boggio Architects, amenity spaces for each resident population are placed within their corresponding community.
Amenities for assisted living and memory care
For example, assisted living and memory care both have dedicated exterior courtyards, living areas, dining venues, fitness spaces, and salons.
Independent living’s amenities are spread throughout those floors, too, but largely located on level eight, where a rooftop pool, fitness club, and several dining venues are located. Additionally, the 18th floor boasts the Skyview Lounge and other amenity spaces with impressive city views.
Also amplifying the resident experience are balconies in every apartment and immediate access to medical services by way of an adjoining medical office building.
Jurors applauded the project’s use of the vertical site and distribution of amenities, which together offer a solid example of urban senior living development.
