Thrive at Montvale, New Jersey

Thrive at Montvale located in the heart of Montvale, N.J., was created as a place where people of all ages would want to live, with some extra touches for older adults.

The intentional design of the community’s amenity spaces, including an athlete center, social court, and Convivium Coffee Company, is intended to open the option of senior living to a set of residents who may not have otherwise considered it.

Design inspired by New Jersey history

Architecturally, the exterior pays tribute to the past with a modern twist. It is reminiscent of the traditional collegiate vernacular found throughout New Jersey and the larger northeast while also being inspired by the town’s deep history in farming.

For example, the saltbox architecture of the exterior is a nod to the local farmhouses of the 18th and 19th centuries, with a steep and offset roofline intended to shed heavy snow loads and retain heat.

The centerpiece of the community’s interior, as well as the social court, is a very large and prominent fieldstone wall connecting the indoors with the outdoors. It includes bocce ball, a life-size chess board, lawn for movies, outside dining with barbecue, fire pits, ping-pong table, multiple seating areas, greenhouse, and multiuse indoor/outdoor studio.

The social court’s chimney and custom brickwork on the façade and the large storefront glass windows deliver a modern interpretation. There are also exposed wood beams, high ceilings, and natural light flooding the community’s interior as well as natural textiles and colors throughout.

Together, these elements evoke a contemporary and luxurious farmhouse feel with the intention of integrating indoor and outdoor space.

The 211,500-square-foot independent living, assisted living, and memory care project includes thousands of square feet of storefront glass on all sides of the community, bringing daylight into almost every space.
