Operator Chelsea Senior Living (Fanwood, N.J.) and owner Trammell Crow Company (Dallas) wanted to expand to Fair Lawn, N.J., with a new assisted living, independent living, and memory care project: The Chelsea at Fair Lawn.

Opened in 2023, the 102,000-square-foot community includes 26 independent living units and 67 assisted living and memory care units.

Resident amenities include a beauty salon, movie theater, multifunctional dining room with space for cooking demonstrations, dedicated fitness studio for therapy services, communal lounges, and an activities area.

Independent living residents also have access to a fitness center and underground parking.

Fashion-forward interior design

The design approach for The Chelsea At Fair Lawn is intended to appeal to the target demographic for this community: the fashion-savvy woman who likely came from and commuted to New York City.

More specifically, the Chanel suit, introduced by Coco Chanel more than 90 years ago and remembered as a symbol of power, elegance, and feminism for women, served as inspiration for the interior design for Chelsea at Fair Lawn.

For example, tweed boucle fabric-covered pillows can be found in the lobby, pinstriped suiting fabric covers the sofa in the lounge, turquoise-covered high-backed chairs are featured in the lobby.
