Watercrest Senior Living Group (Vero Beach, Fla.), a developer and operator of assisted living and memory care communities, wanted to open a new community in Naples, Fla. A market feasibility report indicated a significant demand for assisted living and memory care in the Naples market, but much of the current supply was dated.

In a joint venture with United Properties, Watercrest Senior Living Group decided to develop a new luxury community, Watercrest Naples Assisted Living and Memory Care, to accommodate the needs and wants of Naples’ seniors. The 113,183-square-foot community, which opened in December 2019, features 128 units, including 96 assisted living residences and 32 memory care apartments.

Working with D2 Architecture (Dallas) and IDA (Nashville), the project team set out to create a welcoming, modern design that includes multiple dining venues, comfortable living settings, fireplaces, engaging program areas, an intimate café bistro, exhibition kitchen with wood fire oven, spa with massage room and relaxation lounge, and Creative Kids Center. Furnishings and decor are composed of a wide variety of materials, including wood, metal, stone, capiz shell, and crushed glass.

Apartment floor plans are open with plentiful natural light and luxurious designer finishes, including crown molding, granite countertops, tiled kitchenettes and baths, stainless-steel appliances, and brushed nickel fixtures.

Leading to the main dining venue is a grand promenade that features a crystal chandelier, maple wood accents, circular-patterned porcelain flooring, and a marble-encased water wall. Florida-style outdoor living spaces include a resort-style pool, lush courtyards, tiered fountain, and fire pit.

Understanding the unique needs of those with memory impairment, the community’s attached, secure memory care neighborhood incorporates a Market Street Plaza outdoor streetscape and programming touches that support the community’s multisensory approach. Cycled circadian lighting is also used to present natural lighting rhythms to support residents’ natural sleep-wake cycles.
