In an effort to foster a more homelike, modern living experience, Village On The Isle, a not-for-profit, faith-based continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in Venice, Fla., initiated a renovation of its assisted living and memory care building.

The redesign of The Lofts, a five-story, 80,000-square-foot assisted living and memory care community within Village on the Isle, began in April of 2017. The project included three assisted living floors and one dedicated floor for memory care to total four residential living floors. Construction was completed with a phased-in approach so everyday living was not disrupted for the residents.

Situated on 16.5 acres, the project’s interior design reflects its Southwest Florida environs, including warm, natural materials. A neutral color palette was chosen so it wouldn’t be distracting to the residents when they are moving about. Common areas including dining rooms, living rooms and multipurpose rooms were modernized with new finishes and repositioned to allow for natural lighting.

Additionally, the resident’s floor plans were redesigned with six new options introduced and units are situated as neighborhoods that include community space on every floor for dining, activities, and social opportunities; a beauty spa and salon; and a staff room for medical documentation and storage. The dedicated memory care floor features an urgent response and access control system. Plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems were also replaced in the 35-year-old building.

On the exterior, a new wall assembly was constructed, enabling a weather-tight, insulated envelope designed to withstand Florida’s extreme environment. Exterior stucco, mansard roof areas, and faux balconies were also added.
