The Brielle at Seaview opened its doors in Staten Island, N.Y., last November to fill a need for high-quality assisted living services in the area. The 103,000-square-foot community is owned by the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty, a New York-based nonprofit, and managed by FilBen Group (Rye Brook, N.Y.).
MHG Architects (New York) designed the three-story community, which houses 122 one- and two-bedroom suites. A wing on the third floor is for memory care residents.
All of the apartments are fully furnished and include modern finishes and large windows that provide natural light and expansive views of the surrounding woodlands.
Residents can access multiple common areas, including a café, library, beauty parlor and barber shop, game room, dining room, and multiple outdoor activity areas.
A neutral color palette was inspired by the local area and creates a warm, serene feel throughout the community. “Inspiration came from not only the environment but by the community that would be the spirit of the facility," says Jessica Coppola, manager of development for FilBen Group, who oversaw the design of the property.
For example, Coppola says the wall finishes and flooring provide a soft visual background for the organic and geometric patterns in the furnishings and artwork.
Last November, the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce presented The Brielle at Seaview with the 2015 Building Award for excellence in exterior, interior, craftsmanship, natural beauty, and interior decorating.
