An affiliate of Focus Healthcare Partners LLC (Chicago) purchased The Virginian, a continuing care retirement community in Fairfax, Va., with the intent to create one of the region’s premier rental communities. The finished project will be a resort-style community for residents who enjoy top amenities, best-in-class dining options, and aesthetic beauty in both the interior and exterior grounds. The community will feature advanced technology and sustainability and honor the old town charm of colonial Virginia with a new, hospitality-inspired contemporary flair.

Situated on more than 32 wooded acres overlooking Accotink Creek in Fairfax, the seven-story, 367,000-square-foot project will include four wings featuring 155 independent living apartments, 56 assisted living units, 36 memory care units, and 53 skilled nursing units. The project design team includes interior designer Meyer Senior Living Studio (Ardmore, Pa.) and architect Moseley Architects (Richmond, Va.).

Renovations will focus on the lobby, dining room, memory care neighborhood, and independent and assisted living areas, and the project will also add a new wellness spa. All units will be completely recreated with open floor plans, modern appliances, and finish upgrades. In addition, the community will feature indoor air-quality systems, electric vehicle parking spaces and charging areas, WaterSense-labeled water fixtures, and all new LED fixtures.

The $56.5 million renovation is scheduled to be completed in phases through September 2022.
