The Sharon at SouthPark, a senior living community in Charlotte, N.C., has broken ground on a $178 million independent living expansion, according to a news release.

The project features two components: Belmore, a new luxury independent living building with 64 units, and the 52,000-square-foot Weisiger Center for Vibrant Living.

Belmore units range from 1,700 to 2,600 square feet. The building’s first floor is designed to include a mix of office, retail, and restaurant space.

Adjacent to Belmore, the Weisiger Center comprises space for fitness, aquatics, walking tracks, golf simulators, and wellness programs.

Shook Kelley (Charlotte) is the architect on the project, with Edifice Construction (Charlotte) and LandDesign (Charlotte) serving as general contractor and landscape designer.

The project is expected to take 32 months to complete and open in early 2029.
