DIGroup Architecture (DIG; Brunswick, N.J.) and architect James Evers are collaborating on the design of the Montclair Veterans Service Center, a supportive housing development for homeless, at-risk, and aging veterans in Montclair, N.J., according to a news release.

The adaptive reuse project will replace the former American Legion Crawford Crews Post 251 with a new multistory community featuring 11 supportive residential units. Amenities will include space for community engagement, education, and veterans services.

The design will preserve historic elements of the original structure, including stonework. The building, which dates to circa 1887, is an Italian Renaissance-style landmark.

Project leaders are currently advancing zoning approvals and housing voucher allocations to begin construction.
