Continuing care retirement community (CCRC) Meadow Ridge broke ground on a solar installation project at its campus in Redding, Conn., according to a news release.

The project will construct three solar arrays, two of which will be placed atop new carports and the third to be installed on the roof of Ridge Crest, Meadow Ridge’s sub-acute rehabilitation and skilled nursing center.

The arrays are anticipated to generate 17 percent of the community’s annual electricity, 897,700 kilowatt-hours, and save $7.6 million in energy costs over their lifespan. The solar energy produced is also expected to offset 627 metric tons of carbon each year.

Solar energy installation firm Verogy (West Hartford, Conn.) is the builder on the project, which is scheduled to be energized later this year.
