J+J Flooring has announced that St. Luke’s Home, a project submitted by Susan Mulholland, principal interior designer for Mulholland Art & Design Commercial Interiors (Tucson, Ariz.), has been selected for the Impact Project.
Launched last year, J+J’s Impact Project, for which Environments for Aging magazine served as media partner, improves environments for seniors in underserved communities with free flooring and installation. Design professionals were encouraged to submit applications on behalf of their clients or eligible facilities within their communities. A panel of senior living design professionals helped select the project.
Located on the edge of the University of Arizona campus in the historic Feldman neighborhood of Tucson, Ariz., St. Luke’s Home is a holistic, 55+ assisted living community with limited financial means. While providing pro bono design services last year through a volunteer project organized by the Arizona Builders Alliance (ABA), Mulholland noticed the facility needed new flooring. ABA volunteers provided a new ADA-compliant restroom, new paint in the hallway alcoves that serve as sitting areas, employee break room repairs, and landscaping.
“This project was just the beginning for improving St. Luke’s. There was clearly more to do for this community and for the elders who call it home,” said Mulholland. “Even though the decision was made to leave the flooring in the main dining room and activity room as is, my goal was to eventually replace the old plush carpeting with commercial grade carpeting or vinyl planks that would be more suitable for the elders to use and easier for the staff to maintain. J+J’s Impact Project was the perfect opportunity to provide appropriate flooring in these areas at St Luke’s.”
“Congratulations to Ms. Mulholland and St. Luke’s Home. We believe the right flooring makes an important contribution to the aesthetics, safety, and performance of a space, and the Impact Project is a small way J+J Flooring can give back to the residents and staff of St Luke’s and help improve the quality of their lives,” said Brian Johnson, director of business development for J+J Flooring.
