Senior housing complex Edith Spurlock Sampson Apartments is nearing completion of a $150 million redevelopment to become a multi-generational community in Lincoln Park, Ill., according to the website bookclubchicago.org.
The project is a collaboration between the Chicago Housing Authority and PIRHL Developers (Cleveland, Ohio) and includes the addition of a 6-story building between two existing 11-story buildings that are also being renovated. Two new pedestrian bridges will connect the buildings.
The project will add 11 units to the existing buildings, which previously house 394 units for residents ages 60 and older. The new building, called the Sheffield of Lincoln Park, will house 80 units for families.
The new building will also be a community hub with a large activity space and dining area. The buildings also will share fitness centers and lounge areas.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of November.
