Lisa Cini, president and CEO of Mosaic Design Studio (Columbus, Ohio), collaborated with retailer Pottery Barn on its recently launched furniture collection designed to be accessible for senior adults and those with disabilities.
To create the Pottery Barn Accessible Home Line, in some cases small tweaks were made to existing Pottery Barn products. For example, mirrors were redesigned so they can tilt, making it easier for individuals in wheelchairs to easily see themselves.
Modified versions of popular office desks were also created with dimensions that accommodate wheelchairs. The desks also feature open storage and shelving, to eliminate the need to grip and pull drawers.
The partnership with Pottery Barn began with Cini’s project to renovate an historic mansion in Columbus into a multigenerational home, called the Werner House, that’s designed with features to address aging in place and those with disabilities.
Numerous designers and manufacturers, including Pottery Barn, collaborated on the renovation project, providing technology and design elements such as bathrooms with ergonomic and safety features; height-adjustable kitchen counter tops, sinks, and toilets, and disability-friendly furnishings.
The furniture line is available here.
