Catholic Charities of Philadelphia (Philadelphia) held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on St. Katharine Drexel Place, a new affordable senior living community in North Philadelphia, according to catholicphilly.com.
The project will be an adaptive reuse of a former friary housing Franciscan priests and brothers who taught at the adjacent Archbishop Ryan High School, which is still active. The location of the senior living community next to a high school also gives the project an intergenerational component, according to Catholic Charities.
The new senior living community will house 48 one-bedroom units for seniors 62 and older, as well as provide case management, health services, and recreational activities through Catholic Housing and Community Services (Philadelphia).
