Smith Village recently broke ground on a $22.3 million construction project to benefit short-term stay rehab and skilled nursing care residents. Located in Chicago’s Beverly community, the modernization of Smith Village’s Johanson Wing (built in 1991) will convert double-occupancy rooms to private suites and rooms and add a three-story, 10,204-square-foot extension to the current building. It will house therapy rooms on the first floor and dining rooms on the second and third floors. Smith Village will begin construction in early November 2019, eventually reducing its total number of licensed beds in the Johanson Wing to 78 from 100 when it converts most double-occupancy rooms to private suites and rooms.
