A partnership of the New York City Housing Authority, developer Urban Builders Collaborative (New York), operator RiseBoro Community Partnership (Brooklyn), and nonprofit senior living advisor Selfhelp Community Services (New York) opened the Atrium at Sumner, an affordable independent living community on the Sumner Houses Campus in Brooklyn.

Architecture firm Studio Liebskind (New York) designed the Atrium at Sumner, which houses studio and one-bedroom 190 units, with 57 units designated for previously homeless seniors and 132 units for seniors earning at or below 50 percent of the area median income, according to a news release.

The building design incorporates Passive House Standards for energy efficiency.

Amenities include a laundry room, community room, library and computer room, fitness room, bicycle storage, and community garden.

Affiliated with UBC, Lettire Construction (New York) was the general contractor on the project.
