Southwest Florida Affordable Housing Choice Foundation (Fort Myers, Fla.), the nonprofit development arm of the Housing Authority of the City of Fort Myers, marked the start of construction on Strayhorn Place, an affordable senior living community in Fort Myers, according to a news release.
The 62+ community will house 80 units for low-income seniors, as well as a gym, health clinic, business center, movie theater, and café. The project will renovate the former Royal Palm Towers, a 60-year-old, 11-story apartment building in downtown Fort Myers.
The project team will include architecture and interior design firm Studio+ (Fort Myers), green building and urban design firm Community Development Reimagined (Fort Myers), builder Chris-Tel Construction (Fort Myers, Fla.), and Ink Engineering (Fort Myers), providing engineering services.
