Atrium Village, Owings Mills, Maryland

A recent transformation of Baltimore’s Atrium Village began with an upgrade of finishes and fixtures for its 187 independent living, 58 assisted living, and 20 memory care units. Artwork, signage, accent paint, and flooring were used to differentiate floor and acuity levels.

Atrium Village 20th anniversary

The transformation coincides with the community’s 20th anniversary with the goal of creating a new modern and next-generation senior living community.

In the commons, an underutilized lobby was subdivided into a hospitality area and adjacent lounge. A new promenade draws residents and guests to three central amenities, including a multipurpose room, bistro, and dining room, which connect to assisted living and memory care areas of the community. A double-sided, two-story fireplace divides the lobby and lounge, with glass and wood doors swinging 180 degrees to maximize functionality.

A multipurpose room serves as a theater and activity space. The bistro is adjacent to the multipurpose room, allowing it to serve movie events, in addition to its functionality as a grab-and-go. The bistro and dining room are designed with sliding doors to resize rooms depending on time of day and offered service.

Assisted living and memory care

A new assisted living and memory care lobby features a three-sided fireplace, welcoming reception desk, and seating area, and opens into the assisted living bistro and dining room. The goal is to encourage residents and guests to congregate in the activated spaces.

Also included in scope were infrastructure improvements, including new HVAC split systems, dedicated outside air system units, phone system backbone, Wi-Fi, and refrigerant line upgrades, exterior cleaning and sealing, and the modernization of three traction elevators.
