Masonic Homes Kentucky is an organization of “Passionate People. Inspiring Lives.” In their 150-year history, they have learned a thing or two about community connectivity and gaining inspiration from the city they call home, Louisville. The goal of their 82-acre campus, and this project, is to give residents access to community-wide and Louisville-area amenities and activities, inspiring them to live life to the fullest.
With the completion and speed of occupancy of a previous independent living product on campus, they continued to keep pace with the area’s booming long-term care industry by embarking on another 122-unit complex. Through conversations with residents, a specific desire was uncovered. As a result, an arts and culture focus became the inspiration for the new project, a concept that explores the power of art to enhance health and well-being.
AG Architecture and Reese Design Collaborative implemented design strategies to accentuate this unique amenity offering. Every detail and destination, from a fully-functioning art studio and 70-seat cinema to a performance center and corridor spine with rotating art displays, inspires engagement and activity and infuses creative spirit into the community.
This project addressed residents’ desire for wellness and culturally rich amenities, aspects that the city of Louisville is known for—it is an amenity-rich project that creates a dynamic senior living experience on campus while providing a deeper connection with the greater Louisville community.
